President's Blog, Summer 2019
June 20, 2019
This year marks the 51st year of our family ownership and my 39th year of full time employment at Silver Lake Bank. Over the years I have been blessed to have worked for and with many fine people. That trend continues today. Our values - what we stand for and what differentiates us from others, is represented in our Banking & Beyond Pledge which hangs on the wall at each branch office. This pledge addresses customer appreciation, community, service, family and trust. We care about providing quality service and making connections with customers and this community.
Here’s an item for your to-do list – organize your finances. Review your budget. A lot can change in a year. Develop a strategy for spending and saving – and stick to it. Refinance and pay down debt. Look at what you owe, chip away realistically and talk to a lender about refinancing. Set up automatic bill pay. By paying recurring bills automatically you won’t have to worry about a missed payment impacting your credit score. Save for emergencies. Prepare by setting up an automatic transfer from savings. Ideally, it should hold about three to six months of living expenses. Go digital. Converting to paperless billing will help protect you from fraud. Use our mobile app to check your balance, pay your bills, transfer funds and deposit checks. Check your credit report. Every year, you are guaranteed one free credit report from each of the three credit bureaus. Take advantage of these free reports and check them for errors. Mistakes can drag down your score or cause you to pay a higher than necessary interest rate. SLB can help make any of these things happen for you!
I’d like to take this opportunity to acknowledge a few staff members. Terry Paletta, Jayhawk Receptionist & Administrative Assistant, is retiring after 16 years. You will be missed Terry! Silver Lake branch staff attended ‘High Five Friday’, encouraging grade school students as they entered school. Lainie McPherson, AVP & Senior Credit Analyst, organized the collection of canned goods at our offices for Harvesters. Shane Koci, VP & Online Banking Services Manager and Kim Acheson, Southwest Branch Manager, provided services at the Auburn-Washburn Mini Conference for Classified Staff. Scott Hughes, VP & Loan Officer, taught Junior Achievement Class at Jay Shideler Elementary. Young Guns (our 20-something staff) helped set-up for the annual Topeka Zoo Roar and Pour event. Proud of all of you!
Enjoy these upcoming summer months and find time to spend with family and friends. Thank you for banking with SLB!
